Hard to find records
Welcome to record auction the rare record auction site that helps you to quickly locate hard to find records.
What are a hard to find records?
People who don't collect vinyl records tend to find it odd that we talk about hard to find records. They go into junk shops and charity shops and they see piles of vinyl records and assume that they're everywhere. They don't undrestand that the 200 scratched copies of Tears by Ken Dodd or the millions of Tijuana Brass albums are not what most record collectors are intrested in. Where are all the Beatles demos and acetates when you need them?
In actual fact, the term hard to find records could be used to describe most original first pressings of vinyl records from the 1950's onwards (with a few exceptions, such as that Ken Dodd mega-hit from 1965!) Those of us who collect rare vinyl records will know only too well that you could trawl through a thousand charity shops and you would be unlikely to find an original Red label Decca album by The Rolling Stones, let alone a gold stereo Parlophone of Please Please me by the Beatles! Now, I won't deny enjoying the thrill of the chase, and there is nothing more exciting than finding what looks like a warehouse stuffed full of old vinyl records that nobody seems to care about - but that really doesn't happen very often and when it does, again, the chances are that you'll find that you've stumbled upon a mass collection from 200 charity shops, rather than a stash of genuinely hard to find records that you would want to buy.
So what is recordauction.co.uk all about?
The idea is quite simple. As a record collector myself, I don't always have time to plough through auction listings (especially when I'm at work!) BUT I hate the idea of missing out on bargains just because I don't have time, or I'm not allowed to check on what's happening. Similarly, many people are blocked from accessing eBay directly when they are at work. Love it or loathe it, eBay has been brilliant for record collectors on the whole because it has opened up pockets of rare vinyl records that might otherwise have remained firmly closed and hidden away. Yes, in many areas of record collecting, eBay has made it harder to get mega-bargains because overseas record dealers can now quickly check out the actual selling prices of records that they have come across, but in the main, I personally think it has become one of the best places to buy rare vinyl records online, largely because of the sheer volumes of listings and even though most categories are now closely followed, there is still a chance to nab a bargain if you're lucky.
Quickly find the real hard to find records
What Record Auction does is give you one click access to a selection of carefully chosen auction listings for your favorite artist or music genre so you have a great chance of spotting the big rarities in seconds because most of us are interested in finding the hard to find records - the ones that rarely come up for sale. When they do, they are usually on eBay.
Hard to find records are normally listed in one of two ways - either as an auction or as a set sale. You will be able to tell which is which by checking the listing on the page and if you want to look more closely or read the full description, simply click on the listing to find out more on eBay itself (there's absolutely no obligation to buy). Set sale listings can be bought on the spot, auction items have to be bid on. To place a bid on vinyl records or anything for that matter, you enter the maximum price you are willing to pay for the record and eBay will adjust the current bid price depending on the other bids placed. In other words, if you place a bid of £5 on a record currently listed for 99pence and nobody else bids on it, you get it for 99pence (possibly plus shipping - depending on the listing). If one other person bids £2.50, you would still get it for slightly more than that and so on. If you haven't used eBay before, just click to register and sign up. It's completely free for buyers.
By checking the various artist or music genre pages you will quickly see the sort of quality of rare vinyl records that are constantly for sale. We make it easy to find the rarest records for sale. Check the Beatles page and you'll probably find original red and white Parlphone demos. Hard to find records that you're never going to come across at the local car boot sale!
The site is entirely free to use, but if you find it helpful, please bookmark us and tell your friends or google+ us, we'd really appreciate it. If you would like to see a specific artist or genre covered or have any other requests, please leave us a comment. Otherwise, happy record collecting, and I hope you find the hard to find records you need!
